This movie “Erin Brockovich” present few number of business ethical issues. This film is based on true story and demonstrates few business ethical issues for their own profit. The movie describes the story of Erin Brockovich who is a struggling single mother who becomes connected to Ed Masry’s law firm because of an unfortunate car accident, and begins working at the law firm out of desperation for an income. As she spends time filing papers as a clerk, she becomes interested in the human nature of the medical cases and persuades Ed Masry to allow her to investigate further. Erin spends numerous hours examining these cases and finds a link to between the community members of Hinkley, CA and a company by the name of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), who have a plant in Hinkley. The ethical dilemma that was illustrated in this film was bribery. This issue was also viewed very negatively, and as if the bribery offer was too small to even be taken seriously. There were two good examples of PG&E’s attempt to bribe the members of the Hinkley community to drop the charges against them, and even before that to accept that their health issues were not at all related to PG&E. The first example of bribery was shown when a PG&E …show more content…
I understand that it would be difficult to act against your company, as I believe it was for PG&E employees; however this exercise illustrated exactly how important it is to act in an ethical manner, even if your company is unethical. By focusing on the families that were affected by PG&E’s unethical behavior, the movie was impactful in portraying how serious the effects can be if they are not treated appropriately. If I am ever faced with a situation where my company is acting in an ethically questionable manner, I know this experience will provide great knowledge for me to lean on and ultimately take the right

Enron Analysis Enron is a great play which presents a dry story about business in a colorful and cartoonish way and impressed me with a variety of elements, including video, music, choreography, and dance. This is a play depicts the spectacular collapse of a Texan energy giant-Enron. As an audience, I witnessed how a business empire was built on shadows, accruing debts of 38 billion dollars and finally going bust in this two hours and thirty minutes play. In the following passage, I will describe, analyze, and interpret this play both about its script, including characters and plots, and its production, such as the videos, stage props and customs.

Case Study #1 Case 1: In the past, Monsanto has had many ethical issues like high performance standards that can cause employees to make unethical and illegal decisions and not owning up to hazards around them. However, Monsanto has been striving to enforce their code of ethics and has spent more time trying to become more socially responsible to the environment. For Monsanto to create an ethical culture, he would have to be proactive in anticipating, planning and acting to avoid potential ethical crisis’ (Thorne, Ferrell, & Ferrell, 2008).
The movie Capote (2005) posed many ethical issues in relation to the way qualitative information was conducted. The first of which being the study, or research design, was not approved or monitored by a review board, ethics board or review committees. Capote read about a murder that had occurred in a small town in Kansas and came up with the idea to write about it. There was no informed consent shared with members of the community that he and Harper Lee spoke with regarding the murders. I do not believe that many members of the community were even aware that he was working on a writing, and felt he was just a concerned citizen.
Therefore it is beyond the scope of the ethical mind to make the determination of whether the output of the creating mind is in fact ethically valid. But applying principles of the ethical mind in real life and real workplace settings is not always easy. But one thing is certain: if one hides behind a "veil of ignorance" and deliberately shuts off one 's mind to one 's real position in the world, then one is certain to have a faulty ethical mind that makes bad ethical decision (Gardner 9). For instance, the companies globally are now under scrutiny for setting up off-shore shell companies in the tax heaven through a Panamian law firm called Mossack Fonseca (“Giant”). This scandal shows the huge willingness of global corporations and even powerful political leaders
Alex Owens is a welder in a steel mill who is an aspiring professional dancer. She is an underqualified applicant for dance schools, and is unfairly given an audition due to her boyfriend, Nick’s, connections. In the movie, Flashdance, Alex is faced with a tough ethical dilemma that illuminates areas of corruption and inequity when it comes to certain opportunities. This film also portrays how the basic right of equal opportunity was violated and how authoritative systems are being ruled more and more by the wealthy upper class. Nick uses his connections with the arts council to get an audition for Alex at the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance.
The first episode of Mad Men had a myriad of behaviors that could be thought of as unethical. An example of one of these behaviors could be how women were expected to advance in the workplace through sex appeal. Peggy is told by several people in her workplace on the first day that she has nice legs and should show them off more, especially to her superior Don Draper.
It would be impossible to find a person in this world who could not write a one-page list of things he values. This list would probably include everything from moral values and his family to his career and his car to staying physically and spiritually healthy. The movie Erin Brockovich deals with which aspects of life that most of us would lump under the category of “things I value” should be cherished and never taken for granted, which should be highly appreciated, and which we like to have, but could live without. The entire community of Hinkley, past and present, value every day that they wake up and aren’t feeling like they are on their deathbeds.
In the following paper, I will summarize an article about Business ethics, also go into detail as to how it helped with contemporary thinking, what ethical issues the business leader faced, how I can apply the information in my field and if it matches my views of ethical behavior. Article Summary The article I have picked to review is called Enron, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Supreme Court, A Discussion of the Lawson v. FMR. It begins by describing the fall of the Enron company, though the unethical uses of Special Purpose Entities to hide its losses by setting them up and moving any failing values to the SPE to keep the loss from the Balance sheet.
The movie Wit (Bosanquet & Nichols, 2001) focuses on Dr. Vivian Bearing, an English professor who is diagnosed with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer. It chronicle’s Vivian’s experiences with her health care team up until her death. Throughout the movie her doctors, Doctor Kelekian and his fellows, most notably Jason, make many errors while treating Vivian. They communicate with Vivian in ways that make her feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable, violate ethical principles by ignoring her autonomy and not sharing critical information about her health with her, and failing to addressed her spiritual needs. Vivian’s nurse, Susie, does her best to care for Vivian.
4. Comment on each of the ethical issues mentioned in this case. Rank them
In the movie Crimson Tide, we look to the question ethical decisions, and what someone would do when thrown into a situation that made them question themselves, and who they serve for. In this example, when serving in the United States Military, once a solider is given orders, that solider must follow the orders out and not to question them. The trust between the solider and the higher command giving orders is almost based on blind faith. The solider relies on the higher commands decision of protecting democracy, even if someone, or a lot of people are killed. Is it an ethical decision to follow a commander’s order even if it means killing mass numbers of innocent civilians?
