The text of the book Cinder Edna was organized into simple sentences and short paragraphs. The organization was sufficient for what the book is telling by providing adequate detail in each paragraph. Descriptive language was used throughout the entire book which made having short paragraphs and simple sentences acceptable. One example of a literary tool being employed to make the story more vivid is, “Cinderella sat among the cinders and sighed.” This literary tool is alliteration and it helps support the story by allowing the reader to picture what Cinderella must have felt like in that moment. Another example of a literary tool being employed is the analogy of Cinderella to Cinder Edna. The whole book is a big analogy between the two and how Cinder Edna is a much more independent version of Cinderella. A third example of a literary tool being used is rhyming. “…They did the Storybook Stomp and the Cinnamon Twist. They did the Worm and Fish. They boogied and …show more content…
A character trait of the main character that is established through the text is independence. A character trait of the main character that is established through the illustrations is contentment. Two character traits of the main character that young children identify or sympathize with are optimism and ambition. The main problem that the character faces in the book is that she’s controlled by her evil stepmother. She spends her days cleaning and taking care of her evil stepmother and stepsisters. Although most children have not faced an evil stepmother and/or stepsisters before, they face the challenge of remaining optimistic through tough times. Whether it’s a bully at school or maybe school is just challenging for them, children have to learn how to get through it. At a young child’s age, sometimes minor occurrences can seem like their world is ending, therefore they have to learn to push through and
In this passage “THE GLASS CASTLE” by Jeannette Walls, it's a remarkable memoir of Jeannette and her family lives. The novel begins when Jeannette was three years old and she was making hot dogs and caught herself on fire. She ends up having 2nd degree burns and had to get a skin graft. Jeannette uses characterization so the readers can know about her and her family and how odd they were. Even though her parents always did something bad they always made something out of nothing.
A seemingly uncorrelated death of a child becomes an attack on two businesses that brought forth unwanted attention. It reveals how corporations can truly neglect their surroundings and the safety of citizens without remorse. In the quaint town of Woburn, Massachusetts, the death of Anne Anderson’s son due to leukemia quickly transformed from a personal tragedy to an extensive lawsuit. Anne Anderson approached Jan Schlichtmann, a personal injury lawyer, to tackle the case. From the beginning, Anne makes it clear that she does not want money, she simply wants an apology.
Laurie Halse Anderson used literary devices very well in the book Chains. One literary device commonly used is the simile. A simile is an abstract comparison where you say something, is like (as) something else. Laurie Halse Anderson uses a simile creatively to describe a woman “Her chin was narrow and pointed like a shovel.”
Trooper Doherty stated that he asked Tiffany Taylor about their travel itinerary and the odor. He added that Tiffany Taylor stated that they were coming from Atlantic City, NJ, celebrating her birthday and that she had one drink early in the evening. He further stated that Tiffany Taylor advised that she was headed back to Roselle, NJ.
Character trait: One trait that the protagonist displays is ‘frustration’, an example from the short story would be: “It was not deep, he wetted himself halfway to the knees” The chechaquo was planning on arriving at the camp on time for the boys at 6:00, he had it all planned out, but when he stepped into the frozen river and wetted his feet, that would mean he would have to build a new fire and wait until his feet were dry and safe to walk with, that would take a lot of time and make him late to the camp. He ‘cursed’ out loud to himself after that, which clearly says that he is indeed frustrated.
How a character acts and what their personality is can describe their character trait. Sometimes characters are different in their traits, oftenly characters can be the same by changing or revising their own character trait. The protagonist is Doug from Okay for Now, by Gary Schmidt. Doug is a teenage boy that is struggling with a rough family. Doug 's father got a new job that was far away from his own town so, Doug has to adapt to the town that he moved to.
How would it feel having life being shortened to an extent of time? There is nothing to do about it. There is no cure. There is no turning back. If having long term family issues isn’t worse enough, Jane Wilson discovered that she has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
Higher education for a woman was almost completely unheard of in the early twentieth century. However, in 1869, Emily Davies created the first college for women, Girton College. Davies had to be very careful since she tried to open “a college like a man’s.” She had to be sure that “masculine” subjects were a part of the college so women could get the same education as a man. Davies believed that if women were held at the same standard of education as a man, all achievements would be considered equally valid.
Characters play a big role in a story. As well as they all have flaws. For example, the narrator’s weakness is her boyfriend, Raheem. She does what he says because “A boy like him can get any girl he want, he ain’t gotta take stuff off nobody.’ As you can tell, Raheem’s strengths are his looks.
Enough evidence was given in the book that Hester deserves the punishment. To prove that she does, Hester was raised as a Puritan so she knew what would be the consequences she has committed adultery and is left with a baby alone to raise without a father role model. As well she is not suited to be a mother. She can’t keep Pearl.
Alexa Kersting was a young fourteen-year-old girl from West Fargo waiting for a life-changing lung transplant. Kersting was diagnosed with lung disease by the age of seven, and developed pulmonary hypertension-- high blood pressure that affects the arteries in the lungs and the right side of the heart-- by the age of twelve (“Pulmonary Hypertension”). Once she was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, she was placed on the transplant waiting list, and for the upcoming months Alexa was on that list, she was on oxygen twenty-four hours a day. Unfortunately, she could never do any of the things other “normal” children could do due to her illnesses and treatments, meaning her hobbies had to be less strenuous, such as piano and art. Thankfully,

“Cinderella, Inc.” by Sue and Allen Gallehugh has a great relation with the 21st Century America society. It is common today’s days that people, in especial the younger one are not opened to new opportunities or to know others more deeply. Cinderella judged her new stepmother and stepsisters even before to take the time and see if they were good persons and may be just judge them by the stereotype that all stepmothers are bad and cruel. At the same time, she tried to play the role of a victim which made her fall in depression and made severe her situation by eating too much and seating in a corner to cry out how unfortunate she was. Sadly, that is a reality in our society and everyone should be aware of it, and try to help those people that
One example of this was when the author used personification to describe the desert towards the end of the piece. Personification is when the author uses human characteristics to describe non-human objects. He described the desert as a beautiful brown color, much like that of a person's skin color. Another example of a rhetorical device that I noticed was polysyndeton, which I found quite noticeable throughout the reading because the author used it multiple times. Polysyndeton is when the author uses a repetitive amount of a certain conjunction to emphasize a certain point.
