In this lab we investigated the energy content of two fuels by using them to heat water. We are to use two different types of fuel to measure the amount of heat produces by each fuel source. Our two fuel sources include propanol and ethanol. The objective of the experiment is to find out which fuel source has the better rate of heating and is more efficient by comparing the results to see which heat up the water to a specific temperature and seeing which fuel source used the least amount of fuel. After the experiment our data showed that the propanol was the more efficient fuel source. We concluded that propanol was the better of the two fuel sources and it burned less fuel and the amount of heat absorbed by the water was more for propanol than ethanol. Fuel is the most efficient way of producing heat. This is caused by the combustion reaction between the fuel and oxygen. The amount of heat given of depends on what kind fuel is being burned and how much of it is being burned. In our case we are using propanol and ethanol and measuring which is the most efficient fuel source. We used the two fuels and heated up water to measure which one was better. To find which did better in our experiment we have to see how much of the fuel is used up to increase the temperature of our water to a specific degree. …show more content…
This includes empty soda can without a top, thermometer, ring stand with iron ring attached, glass rod, 100 ml graduated cylinder, matches, and last but not least two different types of fuel source (propanol, ethanol). Upon completion of the experiment, we got a few notable results. We noticed that the amount of heat absorbed by water is mostly constant between the two but the noticeable difference obtained was with the heat per gram of fuel and heat of

The science behind this is very simple, it involves the behavior of gases. Atoms in a gas is free flowing. They respond and move faster when there is heat, and slower when it is cooler because of a loss of energy. It then changes the pressure of the gas, as the atoms in a certain volume of gas changes. In this experiment, we heated to can with water in it until it was boiling, which
When we’re finding out something that shakes us and makes us upset we look for others to support us through these feelings. Sometimes when we share something terrible, we get a sympathetic response making us feel even worse. Even when we don’t know people in the streets on the cold December night we feel for them when the icy air blows by. To understand the lack of compassion for someone in pain is difficult, not thinking about how that would feel if it was us. However, in Reading the Holocaust we get multiple stories of the survivors experience and how they dealt with surviving the horrible camps in a nonfiction novel by Inga Clendinnen.
Fossil fuels are highly effective sources of energy because they are rich in hydrocarbons. When fossil fuels are burned for energy it is a major cause of pollution. When fossil fuels are burned, they pollute our air with chemicals like carbon dioxide. When they are released, carbon dioxide traps dust and heat in our atmosphere, which is a part of global warming. Geologists are hard at work trying to find new sources of fossil fuels.
Lastly, lower energy continent that the current gasoline for which we use. Gasoline contains about 114,000 BTUs per gallon versus ethanol 's 76,000 BTUs per gallon. This equates into reduced fuel mileage depending upon the fuel mixture percentage, (Gable,
They all have proved that there are pros and cons of this new energy project. There are almost equal amount of advantages and disadvantages that have been proven so far. At the same time while considering corn ethanol fuel would be a perfect replacement due to the higher price of gasoline (Waage 794), issues like corn ethanol’s low performance level and availability would start to appear and convince people that biofuel is not the best candidate to substitute gasoline (Somma, Lobkowicz, and Deason 376). Furthermore, assuming health being the first concern of the public and whether or not thy will support this new energy innovation, producing corn ethanol has caused a greater negative impact to human’s health than what gasoline will impact human’s health. Therefore, instead of spending all the time just on how to push the ethanol production forward, the government should also start looking for an alternative energy resource other than ethanol and
The article states that ethanol fuel which produce by plants, has been supplanted by some of people as replacement to gasoline in the United States and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that ethanol fuel is a good alternative fuel instead of gasoline gas and refutes each of the author’s reasons. First of all, the author of the reading passage claims that ethanol fuel does not help to solve the major problem of environment such as global warming that release carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas like gasoline, this greenhouse gas traps heat in the atmosphere of earth. The professor refutes this point by saying that increase of ethanol fuel does not add the greenhouse gas in atmosphere, because carbon dioxide released
Ethanol is a renewable, domestically produced alcohol fuel made from plant material, such as corn, sugar cane, or grasses (USDOE, 2016). The use of ethanol is important because it can help reduce oil dependence and CO2 emissions. About 20% more emissions are formed when fossil fuels are refined to produce gas (Boyle et al., 2012). Therefore, any reduction in the need for refinement of fossil fuel will result in a decrease in greenhouse gas emission. Ethanol fuel use in the U.S. has increased dramatically from about 1.7 billion gallons in 2001 to about 13.4 billion in 2014 (USDOE, 2016).
Dual fuel engine has natural gas as primary fuel but designed to operate interchangeably with diesel as a pilot injection ignition source with only functioning on compression heat and unable with spark plug(Peter, 2001). In diesel engines, it has good combination of liquid which is the conventional liquid fuel merge with Natural Gas (NG) with the content of the engine is diesel fuel. This combination can be called as Dual Fuel (DF) combustion engine(Sahoo and Saha,
The increase in heat transfer surface has been accomplished not only by increases in the size of the steam generator, but also by changing the arrangement and configuration of the heat transfer surface. The earliest steam generators consisted of a water-filled vessel heated by fire. The heat transfer surface of this arrangement was increased by placing tubes through the vessel and passing hot flue gas from the combustion process through the tubes. As this fire tube design reached size limitations, the water tube design was developed.
In particular, biofuel is of poor value compared to regular gasoline. Robert Bryce, writer for The New York Times, explains that biofuel has a “lower energy density” compared to gasoline so you have to buy more biofuel to get the same total energy output as straight gasoline (Bryce). Fueleconomy.gov, a Federal Government Website, contends that a car which that burns the most common form of biofuel get less miles to the gallon (Bryce). Bryce declares that biofuel is a “boondoggle” because it is a poor value compared to gasoline (Bryce). In addition, biofuels are not as environmentally clean as predicted.
Fossil fuels Fossil fuels are NOT a renewable energy resource it will finish up one day As once we 've burned them all, there isn 't any more, and our consumption of fossil fuels has nearly doubled every 20 years since 1900. This is a particular problem for Oil, because we also use it to make plastics and many other products Coal, Oil and Gas are called "fossil fuels" because they have been formed from the fossilized remains of prehistoric plants and animals.
Natural gas is a growing industry around the world including the United States. This expanding production, consumption, transportation, and usage of this fairly new energy source will cause many consequences. It will affect a variety of things, whether it be big businesses, small businesses, nature, and everyday citizens. One of the biggest hurdles of today's energy production is to reduce greenhouse gases.
Also, while conventional combustion based power can produce 33 to 35% efficiency of electricity, hydrogen fuel cell can produce about 65%
It can be burned to produce steam for making electricity or to heat building and can also be converted into more concentrated energy sources such as liquid fuel or gas. In this light, the following reviews
